All about the Fishing Club: Packer Bass Fishing team or “PBF” as we like to call. This is a GHSA sanctioned sport for 9th grade through 12th grade. We have local club tournaments that include prizes for big bass and overall team winners with the highest weight. Those club tournaments also are qualifiers for state regional events that GHSA offers. There are 4 State Regional qualifiers. Lake Seminole, WestPoint Lake, Lake Oconee and Lake Hartwell. Each member tries to qualify through these to make it to the State Championship that is held in May. This year the state championship will be held at Lake Lanier. Normally we send 4-6 boats to each regional. The anglers try to be in the top 15 at each regional to qualify for state. We usually compete against 130-140 teams/boats at the regional level. The tournaments are run by professional organizations such as TBF (The Bass Federation) with whom GHSA has partnered with MLF (Major League Fishing). The anglers get to walk across the stage at each weigh-in and are announced and even questioned about how they caught the fish etc. Tournaments are run just like the professional tours. PBF is also a member of the SAF ( Student Angler Federation) which allows us to compete in any SAF Open event across the nation. They also offer national and world championships in which our anglers can compete in if those choose to! Been a very exciting year as we have already had one PBF qualify for the state championship!!
