C.A. Gray Teacher Named GLISI Hidden Hero

MOULTRIE, GEORGIA – December 3, 2024 –   C.A. Gray Junior High teacher Willie Fred Clayton has been recognized by the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) as a Hidden Hero.  Mr. Clayton was one of more than a hundred public school employees nominated by their peers for their selfless acts of service and commitment to education.

When learning of the recognition, Mr. Clayton shared, "This award reminds me to continue inspiring the youth and stay committed to the process of leading this generation of students to succeed to the top.  This experience has allowed me to give back to the great community of Colquitt County, and I am thankful to be a part of the PACKER FAMILY!"

According to the GLISI press release, "the 130 education professionals nominated received a total of almost  42,000 votes illuminating how positive future-focused work that education professionals do each day for the next generation of leaders unifies our communities.  Nominees ranged from paraprofessionals, school social workers, coaches, teachers, federal programs directors, nutrition directors, custodians, principals, and superintendents."

Mr. Clayton is an ESOL and science teacher at C.A. Gray.  During his years in the district, he has assisted in coaching basketball, been a club advisor, a member of the PBIS team, and helped as a leader during professional learning communities in his school.  Mr. Clayton previously taught at Willie J. Williams and in his hometown of Thomasville.  His nominator shared, "I have never seen a more dedicated and passionate educator who gives everything to his students and brings his A-game every day!  He is an example of HOPE for the future of education."

GLISI selected nine Hidden Heroes and three honorable mentions across North, South, and Metro regions.  Each Hidden Hero will receive a cash prize and be celebrated at the Georgia Chamber's Eggs and Issues breakfast on January 14, 2025.  To read the full press release and list of winners, click here.
