As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, Charlie A. Gray Junior High will implement OpenGate Weapons Detection Devices beginning in January.
How It Works:
Students and school visitors will pass through the devices as they enter the building.
Items such as Chromebooks and 3-ring binders will trigger the detectors. Students should remove those items from their bags before entering and have them in their hands.
Additional items that may need to be removed include umbrellas, tin cases (pencils, Altoids, etc.), and some eyeglass cases.
Student Drop-Off Updates:
Please note car rider drop-off are changing on January 8, 2025.
Car Rider Drop-Off begins at 7:20 am.
Students being dropped off in the car rider line will go through the Weapons Detection Devices between buildings F and G.
Bus riders, walkers, and early drop car drop-off students (before 7:20 am) will enter the campus through the cafeteria and go through the Weapons Detection Device set up just inside the entrance.
Any student who arrives after 8:00 am will enter through Student Services and go through a Weapons Detection Device there.
Policy and Safety Measures:
If there is reasonable suspicion that a student or individual is in possession of a weapon or prohibited item, school administrators will conduct a search in accordance with Colquitt County School District and the State of Georgia policies, applicable laws, and local district procedures.
This procedure applies to everyone accessing Colquitt County School District secondary campuses, including visitors and stakeholders. This procedure will be expanded to extracurricular events in the near future.
Adjustments During Implementation:
The first 1-3 weeks will be an adjustment period, and we will accommodate delays during this time.
We appreciate your continued support and patience as we implement these additional safety measures. These steps are designed to protect our students, staff, and visitors while ensuring a positive and productive school environment. For information on all Safety Measures, click here.
