Earlier this year, teachers in Colquitt EMC’s service area were invited to submit grant proposals for up to $1000 each for innovative and creative lesson plans. Sixty-one teachers from 13 schools in the Colquitt County School District were winners with Bright Ideas grants totaling $57,329.29.
Funding for the grants is made possible through Georgia legislation that allows unclaimed capital credits to be used for education in the communities served by EMCs. Colquitt EMC is a member-owned cooperative that provides electricity to over 48,000 members with 72,112 meters in Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Lowndes, Tift, and Worth counties.
