Coach Chance Pitts Appointed as New Lady Packer Slow Pitch Softball Coach

Moultrie, GA—On Monday night, the Colquitt County Board of Education approved the recommendation of Coach Chance Pitts as the new head coach of the Lady Packer Slow-Pitch Softball team. This marks the return of slow-pitch softball to Colquitt County High School (CCHS) for the first time since the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) transitioned to fast-pitch in the 1990s. The program will be launched as a spring sport, providing CCHS female athletes with another valuable opportunity to compete and excel in athletics.

Coach Pitts, a 2006 Colquitt County High School alumnus, is no stranger to success. With 14 years of experience coaching fast-pitch softball, he led the Lady Packer Fast-Pitch Softball team for eight years, achieving an impressive 156-87 record. Notably, his last five teams boasted a combined record of 104-41.

Coach Pitts expressed his enthusiasm for the new role: “I'm excited to start the slow pitch program here at Colquitt County. I am very thankful that Coach Edwards and Dr. Merritt have the trust in me to start this program and get it rolling! I look forward to working with our student-athletes in the spring.”

Coach Pitts is married to Caitlin, and together they have two children: a son, Crew, and a daughter, Palmer.

Athletic Director Coach Cleve Edwards praised Pitts, saying, “Coach Pitts has been a pillar to the softball program in Colquitt County for the past 14 years. His commitment to the program made it an easy decision when discussing the start of the new slow pitch program.”

CCHS Principal Dr. Chris Merritt stated, “With great confidence and enthusiasm, we announce Coach Pitts as the leader of our new program, offering additional opportunities for our female competitors. His understanding of organizing and leading a successful program makes him exceptionally qualified for this role.”

In addition to his new role, Coach Pitts will continue his responsibilities as assistant athletic director and middle school athletic director.
