As part of our ongoing commitment to safety, Colquitt County High School will implement OpenGate Weapons Detection Devices beginning in January.
How It Works:
Students will pass through the devices each morning as they enter the building.
Items such as Chromebooks and 3-ring binders will trigger the detectors, so staff members will assist students with these items to maintain smooth transitions.
Policy and Safety Measures:
If there is reasonable suspicion that a student or individual is in possession of a weapon or prohibited item, school administrators will conduct a search in accordance with Colquitt County School District and the State of Georgia policies and applicable laws.
This policy applies to everyone accessing Colquitt County School District secondary campuses, including visitors and stakeholders, as well as at extracurricular events.
Adjustments During Implementation:
The first 1-3 weeks will be an adjustment period, and we will accommodate delays during this time.
By Monday, January 27th, normal operations will resume, and late students will be required to check in at the front office, pass through the devices, and obtain a pass.
We appreciate your continued support and patience as we implement these additional safety measures. These steps are designed to protect our students, staff, and visitors while ensuring a positive and productive school environment.
